Many of these recommendations come from hundreds of hours of in-house use. We recommend a screen capable of at least a 120Hz refresh rate. Refresh Rate (Hz): The refresh rate refers to the frequency that a screen can display a new image - a major differentiating factor between gaming and non-gaming laptops. We recommend at least 512GB of SSD storage. Storage: If you play a lot of games - particularly those that require more than 100GB of space - you'll need a good amount of storage for your files. For gaming laptops, we recommend 16GB of RAM. RAM: This stands for "random-access memory" and is another key component in overall computer performance. For cheap gaming laptops, we recommend at least an NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 6600M. GPU: The "grand processing unit" is main component powering your games' graphics. While there are too many considerations to fully list here, keep your eye on these key specifications when browsing for a gaming laptop: This is especially true for gaming laptops, where specs like graphics cards and refresh rates are extra important. Shopping for a more budget-friendly laptop without lots of fancy extras can even be a challenge, with product pages filled with manufacturers' technical specifications. Read on for our recommendations, plus essentials to consider before you shop. To save you time (and money), we’ve collected some of the best gaming laptops under $1,500 that are available today. Their CPUs and GPUs still provide smooth performance, especially in well-established titles like Final Fantasy XIV and Grand Theft Auto V. Unless you plan on playing the latest AAA titles with maxed out settings, a mid-range laptop is perfectly capable in most scenarios. There are also gaming laptops that double as excellent everyday laptops if you're looking for a value-packed purchase. While they might not steal headlines, there are plenty of cheap gaming laptops on the market that are great alternatives for budget-minded shoppers, with all the features you need and none of the bells and whistles you don't. There's no denying that these machines are standout performers, but such a steep price tag is not everyone’s idea of fun. Some of the most critically acclaimed gaming laptops can easily run upwards of $3,000 - hardly pocket change for the average Joe.

Step 4: Simplify the remaining fraction to a mixed number fraction if possible.ġ.Remove the whole number 2 from the decimal to leave us with the decimal 0.695. For example, let’s convert 2.695 inches to a fraction with 1/16 precision. Find the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) of the numerator and denominator and divide both numerator and denominator by the GCF. Then, put the fractional inches next to the whole inches for the final result. Next, given that you have x decimal places, multiply numerator and denominator by 10 x. First, count how many places are to the right of the decimal.
I am making dozens of ps file with latex every day, and they never showed the problem and still do not. Open -a "/Applications/Adobe Acrobat XI Pro/Acrobat Distiller.app" Filename.ps I made a ps file using LaTeX, then converted the ps file to pdf with Adobe Distiller. Only the first slide in Full Screen mode is sharp, and only the first time it is viewed. I have the same issue with PDFs created by Adobe Distiller In Acrobat Pro, both on OSX 10.12 and OSX 10.13. Is there maybe an option in Acrobat's preferences that I can change to fix the issue? So I don't understand why it is displayed blurry in the first place. The original PDF file seems to be quite basic. I would prefer if I didn't have to convert the PDF into PDF-X3. It says I need to check Preflight to see what the issue is, however I don't understand the messages on Preflight. I just tried to convert the PDF into a PDF-X3 using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (by selecting File -> Save as other -> Press Ready PDF (PDF/X)), but it says that the file could not be converted. This attempt messed up the colors when displayed by Acrobat (but the colors are still fine when displayed by Mac Preview). I did this using Mac Preview and selecting Export and then the PDF-X3 Quartz filter. One attempt to find a workaround was to create a PDF-X3 file. The issue described above occurs with the original PDF file. If I then switch back to the first slide, it is shown blurry as well, even though it was sharp in the beginning.ītw, I use a MacBook Pro with Retina display and macOS High Sierra, but I've observed the same issue with macOS Sierra. However, when I switch to the next slide, it is displayed blurry (like rendered at a lower resolution). If I open this file and select Full Screen Mode, then the first slide is shown sharp. Here is a basic presentation in which the issue occurs: If you’re burning more calories than you’re taking in, then you will lose weight. The balance of calories consumed compared to the calories we expend (“energy balance”) will determine whether we gain, lose, or maintain our weight: Tracking macros also indirectly tracks calories (the most important factor for weight changes), because macronutrients provide the calories we consume. You can learn the details about alcohol and tracking macros in my other article How To Track Alcohol Macros: The Do’s and Don’ts. AlcoholĪlcohol is sometimes called the “fourth macronutrient” because it provides caloric energy to your body, but it does not provide protein, carbs, or fat.Īlcohol is a toxin, and your body will prioritize metabolizing it first to get rid of it. I recommend getting most of your fat from unsaturated fat, some from saturated, and little to no trans fats ( more on how much total fat to eat later).Įach gram of fat provides approximately 9 calories. Getting enough dietary fat is important for cognitive function, hormonal health, and other body processes but, too much fat, especially trans fat and saturated fat, is a leading risk factor for heart disease. Depending on how the molecules are arranged, the fats can be trans fats, saturated fats, or unsaturated fats (monounsaturated or polyunsaturated). Fatsĭietary fats (the fats that we eat) are molecules made up of essential fatty acids. Whether simple or complex, each gram of carbohydrate provides approximately 4 calories. Consuming enough fiber is important because it adds bulk to your stool to help with digestion. Simple carbohydrates (sugars) are absorbed directly into the bloodstream and provide energy very quickly, which are ideal for pre and post-workout meals when you need energy more quickly.Ĭomplex carbohydrates (starches) have longer chains of molecules that take longer to digest and provide energy more slowly over time, which is ideal when you want to stay full longer.įiber is also a form of carbohydrate but it usually cannot be broken down by the body so it does not provide calories. Carbohydrates also come in different forms: simple or complex. CarbohydratesĬarbohydrates are molecules of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen that provide energy to fuel both physical activity like workouts, as well as bodily functions that keep us alive. So, if you’re not getting enough protein you are more likely to lose muscle mass, fail to grow more muscle, and feel hungrier ( more on how much protein you should be eating later).Įach gram of protein provides approximately 4 calories. Additionally, protein is the most satiating nutrient because it is able to delay hunger better than the other macronutrients. Protein also plays an important role in helping you retain the muscle that you currently have and to build additional muscle mass. These building blocks form the structure of our body’s tissues (most notably muscle tissue, but also organs, bones, skin, hair, and connective tissue). Protein molecules are made up of “building blocks” called amino acids that are joined together in chains. Your body needs macronutrients in larger quantities because each nutrient has essential functions in the body. There are three main macronutrients that provide energy in the form of calories: protein, carbohydrates, and fat. It’s important to measure outputs such as weight, measurements, performance, mood, and energy to evaluate progress.
The only worlds that sort of missed the mark were the volcano world and cave world. Out of all the worlds, my favourites were the beach world with its pirate theme/aquatic hazards, the forest world with its focus on climbing vegetational platforms, and the factory with all of its machine based obstacles. It all feels like a beautiful island/jungle paradise for the Kongs, that needs saving from the corrupting influence of the invading Tikis. In DKCR, these levels and worlds appear lush, full of life and they really capture that outdoorsy nature vibe. If your game is going to use standard videogame world themes, then those worlds should at least look pretty and feel great for the player to experience. The levels of DKCR consistently feel unique, challenging and satisfying to overcome.Īlthough the themes of the eight worlds are pretty generic, the levels themselves are rich with detail, creativity and beautiful aesthetics. Some of my favourite levels had sequences such as being hunted by a kraken, finding shelter from tidal waves, outrunning a disgusting swarm of ants, or exploring a factory full of strange contraptions. The level design in this game is some of my favourite among platformers. Levels are packed with traps, treacherous enemy placements and demanding platforming sequences. With the exception of the strange blowing mechanic, movement feels smooth, quick and weighty. You will jump, roll, climb, blow, and pound your way through the world. In DKCR, you’ll travel through eight harrowing worlds as Donkey Kong with Diddy Kong being available in certain situations as a partner who can double your healthbar and allow you to briefly float in midair. However, the small screen of the standard 3DS is a small downside, requiring the player to focus intensely given the difficulty and the detailed environments. It naturally ends up being one of the prettiest games on the 3DS with its detail and lovely backgrounds. The difficulty is quite surprising for a Nintendo game but it is incredibly refreshing, adding to the experience in many ways.ĭKCR is easily one of the finest displays of 2.5D, with its features and lovely, vibrant visuals. The game is a fast paced, action packed, brutal 2.5D platformer with some wonderfully designed levels, brimming with detail, collectibles, and fun mechanics. For anyone who owns a 3DS and has not played this game, if you like platformers at all, you owe it to yourself to grab a physical copy or get the game off of the eshop before it closes in March.ĭonkey Kong Country Returns was made by Retro Studios, known for developing the Metroid Prime games, and they did a stellar job in resurrecting the classic DK Country platformers. I then booted it up on the 3DS and blew through a new file in a week. While waiting for Tropical Freeze to ship, I found myself nostalgic for its predecessor, Donkey Kong Country Returns (DKCR). Most Costco labs have Image Intelligence enabled by default, however some do not. Image Intelligence adjusts each image based on the content profiles won't work with it. The Fuji Image Intelligence auto-adjustments enabled. The key to using them is having the lab print your images Our site has profiles for all but a few Costco poster printers. Convert your images to the profile for your particular Costco, save them, upload, and collect your prints later. Using printer profiles is not that difficult. For better than OK, you'll need to do a little more work. The resulting prints are usually OK as well. Fuji's algorithms do an OK job at fixing color, exposure, contrast, and sharpening. The easiest method is to convert your images to sRGB and have them printed with the Image Intelligence auto-corrections enabled. I do not have a monitor calibration system. If no, is there a fairly easy way to adjust. Also, what settings are you using with your R300: Epson profiles, one of the canned enhancement modes, etc? Short answer: No guarantee. the printer is different, as are the inks, paper, and driver. Instead of fiddling with color profiles, if I get a reasonable color print on a 4圆 print from my Epson Photo R300 should I be reasonably satisfied the Costco print in 20x30 will be close in color? On the longevity front, the board has no optical brighteners while the satin paper contains levels comparable to Epson Premium Luster.Ģ. The board stock holds more saturated blues, particularly light sky colors. The satin holds more color in dark shadows and typically shows a higher print contrast (120-140:1 vs. Color and contrast range differs between these two stocks. The poster board fuses a thin semi-gloss film to a 1.3mm thick mounting board. One is the semi-gloss poster board, the other a satin finish 270 gsm paper. If I intend to buy a ready made frame from Michaels, Aaron Brothers and the like, am I better off getting a Costco 20x30 print made with or without the poster board mounting? In other words, do the off the shelf frames acomodate the thickness of the board, and does the mounting make it look any better?Ĭostco offers two paper types for their poster prints. These settings or options can also be the root of all problems. The compression settings can make it that an old MPEG-2 codec can actually out perform a modern codec like h264. Some codecs (en Coder/ Decoder) are more efficient than others when it comes to compressing and storage. The common containers (AVI, MP4, MKV) typically support a variety of so called codecs (en Coder/ Decoders) and the selection of the codec is what influences quality and file size.Ī great codec is not a guarantee for quality but has a great influence on file size. MKV is (in my humble opinion) better, but not as widely supported. AVI is widely supported but MP4 is definitely the strong upcoming format to use. Therefor I’d recommend using the container that is most compatible with your devices and/or software. Since the “container” file has a minimal or even negligible impact on file size or quality. The chosen file format, or “container”, has hardly any effect on file size or quality (MP4, MKV, AVI). So based on personal experience (note that I’m not an expert) a few pointers: The times that encoding a movie from DVD took 8 hours are long gone, most of my computers can convert a DVD easily under 15 minutes. The time to encode a movie should be irrelevant – sometimes the time difference is really not worth it, for a few minutes extra you will get a better quality and/or smaller file size. Personally I believe that fine tuning should be a balance between file size and quality. Optimizing or fine tuning of video encoders comes basically down to: |
